Our method: incorporate the French language with fun activities

Children's class

We believe that by using their fine motor skills along with their ability to absorb new languages, children will learn to express themselves in a new language more efficiently (and with less effort).

Bilingualism, a booster for your child's development!

At the Alliance Française of Greater Orlando, we strongly encourage students to start learning French as young as possible:

  • It has been proven by new scientific studies that multilingual people are better at reasoning, multitasking, grasping and reconciling conflicting ideas.
  • They work faster and expend less energy doing so.
  • As they age, they retain their cognitive faculties longer.
  • Learning a language at an early age has a positive effect on the intellectual development.
  • The younger they start, the more proficient they are.
  • Being able to understand different languages and cultures prepares them to be part of our now global world.
  • It also improves a child's understanding of his/her native language.

We use methods based on the principle that children learn better and faster when they enjoy the learning process. Our Native French teachers build their lessons with interaction as a main pattern.

Our Native French speaking teachers will evaluate your child's proficiency in order to incorporate their level and personal development into the best adapted group.

Classes take place on Wednesdays or Saturdays, but we also have classes on alternative days, according to students' and parents' schedules.  All classes are conducted  in a secure environment.

At the AFGO, we arrange our children's  classes in private, semi-private, or groups of 3 to 5 students to maximize learning potential.

Scheduling for private or semi-private classes is arranged between the assigned teacher and the student's parents.

  • 4 to 7 years old: 1 hour per week for 4 years old; 1.5 hours per week for older students.

A collection of French books for children to discover their environment, allowing them to smoothly become familiar with the language; many educational toys; drawing and painting activities; songs and music, are some of the numerous tools we use to make French enjoyable and easy to learn.

We use a series of books especially developed for and adapted to young learners; first grammar lessons; vocabulary and creative activities coinciding with the current Season, all of which assist them in relating to the acquisition of their new language in a manner proven to immerse young minds for a richer learning experience.

  • Summer camps: one week immersion camps for children aged 4 to 12 are held in late July / beginning of August. The camps focus on a specific theme, the Farm for example. Children, in two separate groups (4 to 7 years old and 8 to 12) share daily time together around breakfast, lunch time and recreational breaks. They are, according to their age and level, introduced to multiple aspects of the chosen theme: vocabulary and understanding of the French nuances on the matter. Numerous and various activities: word games, logical quizzes based on the newly learned  notions, drawings, realization of frescos, field trips, and, at the end of the camp, a raffle and a show presented to their parents by the children... these are some of the fun and instructive experiences of this unique Summer adventure.

All our students enjoy similar benefits as AFGO Association Members and are encouraged to participate with their parents in our cultural activities (picnics, movie nights, crêpe party, celebrations, etc)!
